Lifeskills for Independent Living
- People with learning difficulties can come, with support, to the Centre to improve
their safety skills and work towards living more independently.
- People can work on being safe in the street, being safe at home and
shopping for food.

Using the Centre:
A series of visits can be arranged in order to work on skills over a
period of time.
- Staff working with people with learning difficulties come to the centre
for a day's training before bringing groups to work here. They get to
know their way around the centre and share ideas
with fellow professionals.
-
There is the opportunity to look at accessible resources at the centre.
Evaluation:
- An evaluation of the work with people with learning difficulties was
completed in July 2003.
- The full report is available in word format (here),
or as in Acrobat pdf format (here).
- A summary is available from the Lifeskills Centre.
-
Feedback from clients/service users is always welcome and helps us to
stay relevant and up to date
Resources:
-
We have produced a Fire Safety DVD and booklet in partnership with Avon
Fire and Rescue Service and starring actors from ‘The Misfits Theatre
Company’
-
There are a series of photo-stories starring people with learning
difficulties. The stories
include issues around home and community safety.
-
We produced a video called ‘It Could Happen to Anyone’ with ‘The Misfits
Theatre Company’ . The video is
designed to support discussions about safety around the home and
personal safety out in the community. A teaching pack has been designed
to be used with the video.
-
We are working on the production of a variety of accessible booklets on
safety.
